Their self-titled LP is a gorgeously layered mix of lo-fi textures, fuzz-drenched guitars, and the kind of melancholic songwriting that evokes the best of the early 2010s indie era — think Death Cab’s inward gaze meets the swirling intimacy of The Pains of Being Pure at Hearts.

The album also carries a sense of transition. It’s the final release with longtime bassist Vhall Bugtong, whose departure adds a subtle emotional undercurrent, while Jerros Dolino (Spacedog Spacecat, Megumi Acorda) stepped in to bring new rhythmic textures to the fold. Produced by Joey Santos and Ahmad Sohiel Tanji over two years, the record rewards close listening with each track shaped with intention and depth.

Shot by Cesar Morales and designed by Bren Pasamba, its cover art depicting fish swimming against the current quietly declares We Are Imaginary's intent: this is a band uninterested in chasing trends, focused instead on crafting noisy earworms you can play in exchange of the city's (and your mind's) noise.

The result is a record that feels familiar without being derivative — emotionally raw, sonically rich, and stubbornly out of step in the best possible way.
